WRITE WITH WOOL!

Typeknitting explores the typographic potential of hand knitting techniques like Fair Isle, Slipstitch, Mosaic, and Patchwork Knitting. This results in tools like knitting patterns, knitable typefaces and a book, empowering knitters who want to include messages, and graphic designers looking for tactile techniques.

In this ongoing research, Typeknitting involves type foundries, yarn makers, pattern designers, art directors and other textile communicators. The dialogue between digital typography and the analog craft of knitting is continued in workshops at knitting & lettering festivals, museum and art schools.

Typeknitting workshops introduce to an intuitive combination of analog and digital tools. This includes basic knitting techniques like Slipstitch, Mosaic, and Patchwork Knitting, analog and digital sketching, pattern and typeface modification. If possible, the local knitting community is involved to start an ongoing dialogue.
